I’m Matt, a salt water fly fishing guide who provides unique and personalised trips on six meter custom boat for both experts and beginners.

Since the age of nine living in Santa Cruz, California I’ve been salt water obsessed. It was here I proudly gained my first set of stitches from hooking the largest salmon under the pier in the summer of 1975 and where I learned my hand was no match for the rapidly spinning handle of my cheap reel!

It was also in California where I watched in awe as a fly fisherman presented tiny mayfly patterns to rising brook trout. And, 30 years of saltwater lure fishing and some surf guiding have led me to something I really love – sharing New Zealand’s saltwater fly fishing with others.

New Zealand is a long skinny land with changeable conditions and multiple opportunities for the adventurous. With the intention of seeing salt fly develop, I have set out to work with other guides and operators to bring a level of professionalism and friendship that will benefit our clients through referrals and cooperation.
